Competency Based Education for Motivated Learners
This site is dedicated to changing the way organizations that purport to train adults to become competent in their occupations and their lives. Why do we want to promote change? Because the overwhelming evidence is that our educational systems may provide a means to certain ends, but those are rarely seen as the competent woman or man. Short-term knowledge acquisition has long been the outcome of our educational systems. It is easy to see why that has been the long-established product. The first universities were organized around men who knew a lot. Access to that knowledge was through lectures.
The explosion of knowledge today renders the lecture method of presenting knowledge rather obsolete because knowledge is outpacing the ability of the typical college professor to keep up with it. Good information and even structured courses are so available and accessible today that it is fairly common for students to be more aware of changes in the discipline than those who are tasked with teaching it.
